What is RCIA?

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process established for the universal Church for individuals to become Catholic and receive the sacraments of initiation –Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.

Whom is RCIA for?

• Persons in need of Baptism.

• Persons baptized in another Christian tradition who desire to become Catholic.

• Persons baptized Catholic in need of First Communion and Confirmation.

(For those who need Confirmation only, Confirmation only classes will be offered sometime February of 2011, or for high school students less than 18 years old, contact the Religious Education Office for more information).

How does a person who is interested begin?

We begin with the period of Inquiry. During this period, teaching is given to people who are interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. The sessions cover basic information about the Faith. There is no obligation involved in attending these meetings – they are intended to help a person decide whether they want to continue learning about the Faith. Attendees at this stage are known as Inquirers.

When and where are Inquiry sessions held at St. Mary’s?

The room locations may change. If we are not in the announced location, please go to the parish office for the new location.

Tuesday evenings (except holidays) in The Holy Family Room from 7:00-8:30 PM (go to the parking lot in the back of the church. This room is adjacent to the New Hall). New inquirer information sessions 6:30-7:00PM.

Sunday Mornings beginning June 13, 2010 (except holidays) in The Holy Family Room from 9:00-10:20AM (go to the parking lot in the back of the church. This room is adjacent to the New Hall). New inquirer information sessions are held from 8:30-9:00AM.
